samsung 960 evo m2

Once we use mechanical drives they become bigger and better priced. Then slowly SSD started to gain traction due to speed but storage was an issue and one can argue price and size with ssd is still an issue.

Todays newer motherboards have an M2 slot, one can use for example a samsung 960 evo m2 as a start up ssd a 256gb one. The main advantage with a M2 ssd is that small files reads and writes and speed is improved vs a sata ssd. When using windows or some other OS you want the most speed access reading small files and a samsung 960 evo excels at just that. I am using one fast sata ssd from samung a 850 pro for just that reason.

When you choose an ssd you want to buy for the workload and the small files for windows then a fast M2 ssd is a great choice. I am considering adding an M2 ssd to my computer.

SSD started with 2D flat plan nand cells, when they started to shrink those they run into electron migration that cells leaked and needed adjustments. A 2D nand ssd should be avoided. The option with 3D nand was that they could use a larger nand size process and then have way less leakage than smaller 2D nand. When samsung started the 3D nand wave they used a 32nm for 3D nand when 2D nand was hitting 16nm. Using a bigger nand manufacturing for 3D had great advantages, faster, better endurance and more reliable.

Yes the samsung 960 evo use 3D nand so does my sata ssd 850 pro.

So if your in for a upgrade with the SSD then a M2 ssd is a great option if your motherboard has such a slot. If not maybe its time to upgrade your computer for a new era of speed and usage.

 

 

Talent Code and slow motion

The book opens the door slightly to show that some people can develop talent out there. The old Russian lady produced more top 100 player in tennis than any other tennis trainer in the world.

There is then two talents happening, one is the old Russian tennis trainer the lady that is able to produce talent.

The other is the child that is able to take the instruction to be talented. Even if successful not all kids become so good, could be homesick, not into tennis or any other thing.

David Coyles book wont tell us, what to do or why to produce talent only that some people can.

Slow motion can be explained with, old lady cant see so well so she then make kids swing racket in slow motion then she was able to give precise feedback. That is key here, precise feedback. While moving in the proper reference.

If your alone then that is a bit more difficult due to you have to create the difference of feedback.

Prepare for battle the upgrade to AMD Ryzen 1600

Got my parts yesterday, cpu ryzen 1600 6cores and 12 threads and gigabyte b350 gaming 3 motherboard and ram I bought earlier 3000mhz corsair lpx.

So before I got the parts I did some read up, a new cpu and platform means there going to be growing pains, bios from manufactures and microcode from amd take time to mature.

Put it together, ram was running at 2133mhz with xmp. I knew this could indicate a problem, rebooted when I set 2666mhz and since my ram is specified to run at 3000mhz that wasn’t good. So as I did read up on the tech I knew what to do, so I set the ram timings manually and run 2666mmhz into windows, great, now I rebooted and tested 2933mhz and booted into windows, sweet, works.
Then some overlocking took place and 3.8ghz atm with stock cooler. I be water-cooling later when i receive my new block.

It all worked without an issue due to I did prepare for what could happen and when it did I knew what to do.

Preparing helps to understand what is going on based on what other people experience out there so google is a good help. windows 10 was bound to my account so I moved the ssd from old computer to new and could install and update it to the new platform, all great.

Couldn’t be happier with the buy.

Upgrading the computer a step to Ryzen

I seldom upgrade my computer, last was 4 years or so.

I knew I wanted a 6core cpu so I waited for amd to unleash their stuff and they did recently.

I am waiting atm for the 1600 Ryzen a 6core 12 threaded cpu and mboard. I paid half the price vs a Intel cpu system which makes this an incredible value performance.

I want a fast snappy computer, so it was time to let go off my 4 core Intel 4670k cpu. It be retired to lesser service as its good to have one extra if needed.

Looking forward when stuff gets here.

Ryzen AMD cpu

AMD recently made a great cpu and they call it Ryzen.

I waited around 4 years for a 6core cpu to be priced without robbing me, currently,

Intel 5820 6c/12t cost 420euro here. A motherboard sits at 220 euro.

One single amd ryzen 6c/12t cost 250 or 290 euro depending on version. Mboard around 120euro

Intel cost: 640euro
AMD Ryzen cost: 370euro or 410euro depending what 6core you choose.

Performance wise its an equal race. Basically at half the cost you receive a similar performance.

I am glad I waited.

6core Ryzen is out april 11.

Why buy an AMD Ryzen 6c/12t cpu?

My main criteria is gaming, some video editing basically that take some cpu power. Currently I use a 4670k 4c cpu from Intel with 8gb ram.

I waited a few years for amd to get their new cpu line out. A 1600x a 6c/12t is coming in a few months. It is what I waited for. It will allow me a better computer for everything I do. 16gb ram and since I need to buy ddr4 now due to ddr 3 currently wont work in the new motherboard.

However many buy expensive things with little benefit to what they do as my criteria also is that, can I notice a observable difference in my usage?

If you have a mechanical hard drive buying another to replace your main drive wont make any difference BUT a SSD will. 8gb vs 16gb ram may make a difference depending what you do with your computer.

So I buy what makes a difference for me in my usage, a fast ssd like the samsung 850 pro I currently use.

I learned that if even if I buy what one would think is a better hardware I cant find a difference in my usage then for me its like buying something that simply put costs more than its worth.

so atm looks like this,

  • 1600x a 6c/12 AMD Ryzen cpu.
  • Motherboard 370x of some sort.
  • 16gb ddr4 ram.

I water-cool so a new supplement to fit the block will be needed also.

Overall this will allow me the best balance between my usage and difference. I tend to have a lot of webpages open, watch some utube and then work the stuff.

Price here for all those will be around 450euro or so. Depending what motherboard I go with. Currently the Intel 6core cpu cost…..as much for the cpu solely………..which means I can buy a whole computer for the same price as Intel’s cpu and have an equal computer processing power for gaming and everything else I do!

That’s why I am buying a 1600x Ryzen cpu from AMD

AMD Ryzen and buying advice

Whenever a new technology is out, wait. If you cant wait check for solid performers.

Technology works often by tweaking the final product, so when its in its early phase its simply not mature across the board. It will improve as we see motherboards have several revisions of bios over its lifetime.

I myself wait for Ryzen 6c/12t that comes later as I mainly game, write and send emails and read the news. If I did a lot of video editing and was requiring software that needed 8 cores then it be different but all my video editing is light work.

So I wait as march 2 is the release date, I check various reviews, then buyers experience and then sort trough what seems to be what I would want and need for my usage.

It boils down to what your usage patterns are as for me I am in no rush.

AMD Ryzen 8 core cpu

So AMD trailing Intel due to a miscalculation with their previous cpu generation (Bulldozer) has just released a new generation.

They hired Keller an engineer with specialty and he set along the team of Zenengineers the new direction for amd.

Yesterday the new 8 core 12 thread AMD Ryzen is the fastest 8 core cpu and using less power and cost half the price of intels 8core!!

For a small company this is an amazing feat.

Soon AMD also will release their 6 core and a 4 core down the line.

Official release day is 2 march for the 8 core and one can preorder today.

What I like about all this is competence in a field is worth a lot of money as it creates results.

For myself if I been an engineer of hardware I am likely to be in such a spot as Jim Keller is but since I am working with the software of the mind the same need for design isn’t really there at least yet.
